The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has inaugurated a new quantum nanotechnology area in Barcelona. This new establishment, which required an investment of over six million euros, has been financed through the PERTE Chip program and the complementary quantum communications plan. Additionally, this project benefits from funding from Next Generation EU funds. Utilizing advanced tools, including the most sophisticated electron lithography system in Spain, this center is capable of examining nanometric structures with high precision.
Development of the QuARC-CSIC Center for Quantum Research
CSIC has also announced the establishment of the QuARC-CSIC center for quantum sciences and technologies. This center aims to bring together various research groups from CSIC institutions, with the goal of enhancing global research and attracting new talent. Eloisa del Pino, president of CSIC, has presented the strategy for quantum sciences and technologies, emphasizing that strategic investments in Europe, the United States, and China have created a competitive ecosystem.
Del Pino also pointed out the necessity of creating a new organizational model to strengthen Spain's quantum ecosystem, noting that the QuARC-CSIC center will provide an opportunity to establish a sustainable reference structure in this field. This center will be based in Madrid and will focus on enhancing international and domestic collaborations.
