The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., will soon be closed for major repairs. This decision was made after the center's board voted on Tuesday and opposed the return of Donald Trump's name to the venue. Federal Judge Christopher Cooper stated in his latest ruling that "simply put, the defendants cannot install a memorial for President Trump or anyone or anything else at the Kennedy Center without Congressional approval."
Trump's Reaction and Legal Challenges
In response to this ruling, Trump announced that the $257 million (approximately €222.72 million) allocated by Congress for repairs would only be released if the renaming of the venue is permitted. This is a condition that federal courts have twice ruled cannot be met without Congressional approval. Judge Cooper had ruled in May that the Kennedy Center had illegally added Trump's name to the building and ordered its removal. Officials at the center complied with this ruling in June but left scaffolding and barriers where Trump's name had previously been displayed.

A minor ceiling collapse in the main hallway of the building earlier this month intensified calls for repairs.
Additionally, Trump has faced repeated legal challenges regarding the installation of his name on the building, reminiscent of his desire to add his name to buildings as a real estate developer. This battle over the Kennedy Center represents a rare setback in Trump's efforts to dramatically reshape the U.S. capital in his image. He is also planning to demolish the East Wing of the White House and replace it with a ballroom and build a victory arch near Arlington National Cemetery.
