Students of Serbia recently submitted their electoral list titled 'Students Will Win' to the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK). This action came after a large rally in downtown Belgrade and the collection of signatures from supporters, demonstrating the strong will and determination of the youth for change in the political landscape of the country.
Background of the Protests
This movement follows nearly two years of public protests that erupted after the collapse of a train station roof in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 16 people. Students demanded accountability from officials for ignoring corruption related to the reconstruction of this station. At times, the protests drew hundreds of thousands to the streets and increased political pressure on President Aleksandar Vučić.

List of Students and Their Candidates
The students' electoral list includes professors, teachers, experts, and former athletes, some of whom are less well-known. Dr. Ilija Srjanović is recognized as the top name on this list, alongside figures such as Dejan Bodiroga, former basketball star, Dejan Šuškić, former governor of the central bank, Fedra Dimović, musician, Mihal Dudaš, athlete, and Aleksandar Baokal, philosophy professor.
This movement occurs as Aleksandar Vučić announced that if the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) wins, he will resign from his position as President and seek the Prime Minister's role. He stated on September 8 that the parliament would be dissolved and early elections would be held on October 25. He also mentioned that he would resign on September 27 to lead his party's campaign.
The ruling party has introduced him as their prime ministerial candidate, and he is at the top of the list 'Aleksandar Vučić - United Serbia'.
