Andris Kļaviņš, the Prime Minister of Latvia, made a serious statement regarding the security threats from Russia, declaring that Europe is finally listening to the warnings from the Baltic countries in this regard. These remarks came after a Russian drone attacked a passenger train near the Polish border and come at a time when Germany has also recently attributed a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Moscow.

Security Threats and the Need for Immediate Action

The Prime Minister of Latvia said: "We were right, weren't we? We told everyone this would happen." He noted that the Baltic countries have long warned about the increasing hostile activities of Russia within the European Union. Kļaviņš added: "We know the bear well, what it thinks and how it acts. We were under Russian occupation for 50 years and know what tricks they have up their sleeves."

He pointed out that now EU leaders are acutely aware of the situation, stating: "Everyone is listening now. When I meet with European leaders, they understand what we are saying. It wasn't like this two years ago." Kļaviņš emphasized that this understanding must translate into decisive actions. He said: "Those who prepare for the worst are actually at peace."

Strengthening the Military Industry and Supporting Ukraine

The Prime Minister of Latvia stressed the necessity of increasing financial and military support from Europe to Ukraine. He said: "Ukraine is being attacked with ballistic missiles, and Russia is increasingly producing these missiles. We are still supplying Russia with Western components to manufacture these missiles." Kļaviņš called for a complete ban on these components, stating: "Perhaps initially we should impose a complete ban on these Western technology components used in these missiles."

He added that to counter the threats from Russia, it is essential that not only European leaders but also the general public are aware of this danger. Kļaviņš said: "There is no full commitment because societies are still lagging in understanding the threats." He emphasized the need for effective communication between politicians and society, saying: "People are tired of political promises and need to hear the truth."
