A new ranking of the 30 most popular castles and palaces in Europe for 2026 has been published, based on reviews collected from Google. This research becomes particularly significant in the autumn season when more travelers seek cultural and historical experiences.

Increased Interest in History and Culture

The development of cultural tourism in Europe is clearly evident in the data collected from travel companies. 94 percent of participants in a survey stated that they are interested in experiences related to history and culture in their future travels. Additionally, 80 percent of them reported that they have traveled to historical sites near their homes.

Most Popular Castles and Palaces

In this ranking, Prague Castle in the Czech Republic, with 199,000 reviews, remains at the top. This historical site, with its rich history and numerous attractions, including St. Vitus Cathedral and the Old Royal Palace, attracts thousands of tourists each year. In second place, Buckingham Palace in London is recognized as one of the most famous tourist attractions in Britain. This palace is one of the three official royal residences in Britain that visitors can tour during the summer.

Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna has climbed two spots compared to 2023 to reach third place. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, this palace offers visitors a rich history and deep insight into the era of the Austrian Empire. In fourth place is the Palace of Versailles in France, known as the former residence of the kings of France, featuring the Hall of Mirrors and extensive beautiful gardens.

Wawel Castle in Poland, despite dropping two spots in the ranking, remains in fifth place and is still considered one of Europe's important cultural attractions. This castle, which was the coronation site of Polish kings, symbolizes the rich history of this country. In sixth and seventh places are two famous Spanish castles, namely the Alhambra in Granada and the Royal Palace of Madrid.

Finally, Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, with its fairy-tale design, and Bran Castle in Romania, known as Dracula's Castle, are ranked ninth and tenth, respectively. These attractions not only provide tourists with the opportunity to experience history but also offer visual and cultural appeal.
