Moeve has begun the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva. This project has been introduced as the largest green hydrogen project in Europe, aiming to position Spain centrally in the development of this new energy industry.
Project 'Onuba' Details
The first phase of this project, named 'Onuba', will initially have a capacity of 300 megawatts of electrolysis, with the possibility of adding another 105 megawatts. The total investment for this project is estimated to exceed 1 billion euros, which includes related infrastructure and a photovoltaic power plant for self-consumption. During the development, construction, and commissioning phases, Moeve estimates that this project will create over 8,000 direct jobs and support the activities of more than 400 small and medium-sized enterprises and local entrepreneurs.

Job Opportunities and Environmental Impacts
Moeve's CEO, Martin Witselaar, stated: "Once again, we are turning dreams into tangible reality." This project could strengthen Spain's role in Europe's energy transition and reduce dependence on foreign resources. It is estimated that this facility will produce around 45,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually and prevent the emission of approximately 250,000 tons of CO₂. The produced hydrogen will be used to support sustainable fuel production in road, air, and maritime transport and will help reduce carbon emissions in other industries.
The construction of this project was inaugurated on Thursday in Palos de la Frontera with the presence of representatives from the Spanish government, the European Commission, and local officials. Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, described this project as a "great industrial opportunity" and emphasized that "the energy transition is currently driving investment."
Moeve believes that Spain's conditions, especially in Andalusia, are very suitable for the development of green hydrogen. The company points to the availability of solar and wind energy, land for large renewable facilities, and conditions that allow for competitive renewable electricity production. The 'Onuba' project is led by Moeve, which holds 51% of the shares in this initiative.
