A 68-year-old Russian man who swam from the Kaliningrad region to Lithuania was met by Lithuanian border guards on the riverbank on Thursday and returned to his country without receiving asylum. According to the Lithuanian border services, after the incident, the man was provided with dry clothes. Reasons for the asylum attempt
The man informed Lithuanian authorities that he fled Russia due to harassment stemming from his activities on social media. However, after assessing the circumstances and reviewing the inconsistent information he provided, Lithuanian officials decided to return him. Giedrius Mišutis, a spokesperson for the Lithuanian border services, stated that the decision to return this individual was based on information indicating that he posed a threat to European security.
