Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, emphasized at the Canada Investment Summit held on Tuesday in Toronto that Canada will continue its close cooperation with the United States, even in the face of trade tensions. Carney stated, "We tell our American friends that we will always be neighbors," announcing that Canada will remain the most important partner of the United States in many key areas.
Commitment to Cooperation in Times of Challenges
Carney further added, "Even in times of disagreement that have existed throughout our long history, we have always maintained deep relations." He also committed that Canada will act as a "better partner" in the future when opportunities return. He said, "We will be stronger, more resilient, and more independent, and we are ready to advance our shared economic and security interests." These remarks come as tensions between Canada and the United States are rising.

Investment Summit and Economic Goals
The two-day investment summit, recognized as "the first of its kind" in Canada, hosted global investors, Canadian executives, and public sector representatives. The Canadian government aims to attract $1 trillion in investment over the next five years. According to the government, this summit has led to new investment commitments of nearly $500 billion Canadian, which includes about $100 billion in new capital for Canadian assets, $325 billion in new financing for businesses and infrastructure, and over $14 billion in capital for the growth of Canadian businesses and strategic sectors.
These developments come as trade disputes between the United States and Canada have reached a peak. After negotiations to prevent heavy tariffs on certain Canadian goods failed, U.S. tariffs of 50% on about $28 billion worth of Canadian goods were implemented in late August. In response, Ottawa announced that reciprocal tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% would be applied to about $27.6 billion worth of imports from the United States.
