An amateur goalkeeper from southeast London, George Desmond Kamorasi, decided to reject the Tooro Kingdom crown in Uganda, which has caused significant tensions ahead of the funeral of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV on Saturday. Kamorasi, 36, and captain of the SE Dons team, was chosen as the main candidate to succeed his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. This selection was confirmed by a 21-member committee, with 15 of the 18 voting members casting their votes in his favor.
Rejection of the Crown and Its Consequences
Kamorasi, citing personal reasons and other responsibilities, including family commitments in England and playing in a football match on the same day, refused to accept the crown, which is considered an inappropriate act in Tooro tradition. This has led to severe tensions within the royal family.

Efforts to Determine a Successor
After Kamorasi's rejection of the crown, the committee turned to Prince Edward Rokidi Kijanangma, a news presenter on Uganda's public network. However, this decision was rejected by the close family of the deceased king. The deceased king's mother complained that she and other royal family members were under house arrest. Additionally, the king's sister, Princess Ruth Komutale, pointed to a conspiracy against the royal family and presented a will from the king that mentioned a biological son as the heir.
Meanwhile, the royal committee Babiyito, responsible for succession and family matters, defended its selection and emphasized that all procedures were conducted in accordance with Tooro traditions and culture.
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, who ascended the throne at the age of three, recently passed away at the age of 34 while receiving cancer treatment in the United States. He was known as the youngest king in the world, and many world leaders were familiar with him.
The funeral ceremony in Uganda was attended by thousands, and Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni emphasized the importance of unity during this time. He urged the people of Tooro to resolve this issue through peaceful means.
