Thousands gathered on Saturday, September 11, in various cities across Germany to protest against the rise of extreme right-wing ideology and to demand a review of the ban on extremist parties. This demonstration took place amid growing concerns about the potential threats to democracy in the country following the success of the "Alternative for Germany" party in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
Protester Numbers and Gathering Locations
The largest gathering occurred in Berlin, where police reported 18,000 participants, while organizers claimed 30,000 attended. The protests were not limited to Berlin, with gatherings in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, and Bamberg each having between 16,000 to 20,000 participants. Protests were also held in Leipzig, Erfurt, Hanover, Stuttgart, and Mainz with significant public attendance.
