Le Butter Shop has opened last month in the heart of the French capital as the first dedicated butter store in Paris. This unique boutique has gained fame by offering 30 different types of butter from family producers in Brittany, the Loire Valley, and northern France. These butters include flavors such as chives, pepper, seaweed, wild garlic, and lemon with green pepper.

Popularity of Butter in France

According to statistics from the French Ministry of Agriculture, each French person consumes an average of about 8 kilograms of butter annually. This statistic indicates that the timing for opening such a store in Paris was highly necessary. Customers can taste from 10 grams to one kilogram of butter before purchasing, and if the regular flavors are not appealing, sweet options like vanilla, raspberry, strawberry, and chocolate are also available.

A Special Butter Tasting Experience

Erwan Leo, the owner of Le Butter Shop, emphasizes the importance of tasting butter in a manner similar to tasting wine, stating: "The goal is not to get drunk. You should take the spoon, place it on your tongue, and let the butter slowly melt so that the flavors can be felt one by one."

Leo also mentions that his producers make the butters from milk of selected cows with higher fat content, which significantly contributes to the final product's quality. He adds: "Adding 2 or 3 percent more fat really makes a big difference."

This small boutique has attracted a lot of attention thanks to social media and is currently operating with four employees. Leo expressed his satisfaction with customer reception of the store, saying: "From day one, it has been busy here. Most people come in with the intention of tasting one or two types of butter and end up trying 25 types of butter."

Future plans for Le Butter Shop include producing butter with new flavors such as croissant butter and perhaps violet. Leo states: "There are no limits to this work." Le Butter Shop is located at 5 Bouchut Street in Paris, just a short distance from the Champs de Mars and the Eiffel Tower.
