Britain, as one of the prominent countries in the Eurovision competitions, is now facing serious challenges. Parliament representatives are trying to examine the reasons behind Britain's "disappointing" record in these competitions and are seeking answers to the question of why one of the former powers of Eurovision is now repeatedly at the bottom of the table.
Current Status of Britain in Eurovision
With five championships in Eurovision, Britain is one of the "Big Five" countries that is guaranteed a spot in the final stage of the competition. However, in recent decades, this country's bright days have turned into major disappointments. Since 2016, Britain has only placed in the top 20 three times and has finished in 24th place or lower six times in the past six years. In 2021, the song "Embers" performed by James Newman was recognized as a complete failure with "nul points".

Parliamentary Investigation into the Causes of Failure
Britain's latest attempt in Eurovision with the song "Eins, Zwei, Drei" performed by Luke Mam No Computer only managed to score one point and finished last. Now a cross-party committee of Parliament representatives is examining this issue and will analyze the selection process of Eurovision artists and songs. Caroline Dinenage, a Conservative MP and chair of the committee, has expressed hope that this investigation can clarify whether Britain's poor results are related to weak song choices, poor performances, or other reasons.
This session will be held in the coming months, and the committee expects to hear from the BBC, which broadcasts Eurovision in Britain, as well as from music industry experts. Despite recent unfavorable results, Sam Ryder stood out in 2022, achieving second place with the song "Space Man" and was the only British artist to place above 15th in the last 15 years.
This investigation comes as Britain looks towards the 2027 competition in Bulgaria, 30 years after its last victory in Eurovision, when Katrina and the Waves won with the song "Love Shine a Light". Additionally, this competition is currently facing a broader political storm, as several countries, including Ireland and the Netherlands, withdrew from last year's competitions due to Israel's involvement in the Gaza war.
